Club Update – 11-9-2013

Hi All,

So last night was a great first night back with lots of new faces and most of our regular members also returning for what we hope will be another great season for the club.
Our first night of the season is maybe a little bit of an information overload for our new members and possibly a little more formal than most nights so hopefully everyone took on board what was discussed and some of the key points are below.

The first big event in the IPF Calendar for our region will be the Print and Projected Image Regional round which will be held in the Nuremore Hotel on the 24th November this year. It is a requirement to enter this in order to qualify for the National finals of the Print and Projected Image competition which will be held some time in February at a date yet to be announced.
It’s worth pointing out that this competition is open to ALL individuals as long as you are a member of an IPF affiliated club. There is no requirement to be put forward by your club for this, it is up to everyone to enter on their own accord. Once the details for this years competition have been finalised I will forward this on to all.

Also before Christmas , our own club will be hosting the Regional round of the National Nature competition , which is a little earlier than normal but again, we will get the details out to all as soon as they have been made available to us. As with the Print and projected, it is a requirement to enter this in order to go forward to the National Nature Finals which will be held on the same weekend as the Print and Projected Finals in February.

We also discussed our website last night , which if you click through from the bottom of this email, you will see that we have been busy over the summer trying to put something a little better together where we can keep our members fully informed of what is going on in and around the club. As a result, we would like members who wish to have their images and maybe a link to their own websites or 500px account,or Flickr, etc.., to drop us a mail with up to 8 images as well as their website address.  It is up to members to watermark or put their signature on these if they wish, so as to prevent image theft but not so intrusive that it distracts from the image itself and prevents people from enjoying your work.
Can I ask those who submit their web address, to also include the Mid Louth Camera Club site as a link on the site that they want us to link to.

There are also 2 events coming up on a more social level.
The first is a Canon night in Carrickmacross Camera Club on the 19th Sept which Michael O’Sullivan will be speaking at and could be worth going to. Drop us a mail for contact details and for more info on that.
The second event of note is being hosted by Mahers Photographic in Drogheda at the Barbican and will feature a talk by internationally renowned wildlife photographer Andy Rouse and I’m told it’s a not to be missed event! Details below.

This years program of events will be available shortly on our calendar section on the website so no excuses for not knowing what we are doing each week!

With that in mind, next week we will have the first of our member nights where we invite new and existing members to show us their work. Next week our two brave members are Derek McAuley and Roisin Butterly. These are always a great night as its always very interesting to see what other are doing and maybe even grab some inspiration for our own work from it!

Lastly , we have put a deadline for fees to be paid on the 15th October and so I would ask everyone to try be fully paid up at this point. Fees are €50 for the year and are payable directly to Kevin any Tuesday night or via the Paypal link on the website.

That’s it from me for now,
See you all next Tuesday,

Neil
